[610] Whatever common conventions (sammutiyo)¹ there are, arisen among ordinary folk— the one who knows does not take up any of them. Free of involvement (anūpaya), why would he enter into involvement (upaya), forming no preference (khanti) for what is seen and heard? #1 M. reads *sammutiyo* [for *sammatiyo*].
