[614] **"Forming no approval of the seen and the heard"** — forming no approval (khanti), forming no desire (chanda), forming no affection, forming no lust — not generating it, not engendering it, not producing it, not bringing it forth — with regard to the seen or to purity through the seen, with regard to the heard or to purity through the heard, with regard to the sensed or to purity through the sensed: thus, "forming no approval of the seen and the heard." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Whatever these conventions (sammati) may be, arisen among the many,
the one who knows does not take up any of them at all;
free of involvement, why would he enter into involvement,
forming no approval of the seen and the heard?
