[629] **Abstaining, one should live, not grasping at peace.** *Abstaining (virato)*: one abides refrained, abstained, and desisted from purity and impurity (suddhi–asuddhi), gone out from it, given it up, released, detached from it, with a mind (citta) made free of boundaries — thus one is "abstaining." *Should live (care)*: one should conduct oneself, should move about, should behave, should proceed, should protect, should sustain, should keep oneself going — thus, "abstaining, one should live." *Not grasping at peace (santimanuggahāya)*: "peaces" is a designation for the sixty-two views (diṭṭhigata); not grasping, not clinging to, not adhering to the view-peaces (diṭṭhisanti) — thus, "abstaining, one should live, not grasping at peace." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Having abandoned all rules and observances (sīlabbata),
and that action (kamma), blameworthy and blameless,
not aspiring to "purity" or "impurity,"
abstaining, one should live, not grasping at peace.
