[630] Relying on that which is loathed,¹ or else on what is seen, heard, or sensed, streaming onward [in saṃsāra] they keep bewailing purity, not free from craving (taṇhā) for the various states of existence. ¹ Yu. (variant): *tapūpanissāya* ("relying on austerity").
