[780] **"Investigating"** — in the phrase *a bhikkhu, investigating, ever mindful, should train* — means: investigating, examining, weighing, judging, elucidating, making evident that "all conditioned things (saṅkhārā) are impermanent" … "whatever is subject to origination, all that is subject to cessation" — investigating, examining, weighing, judging, elucidating, making evident: thus, "a bhikkhu, investigating."
**"Ever"** means: ever, always, at all times … in the final stage of life.
**"Mindful"** means: mindful for four reasons — developing the establishment of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) of contemplating the body in the body … he is called one who is mindful.
**"Should train"** means: there are three trainings — the training in higher virtue (adhisīlasikkhā), the training in the higher mind (adhicittasikkhā), and the training in higher wisdom (adhipaññāsikkhā) … this is the training in higher wisdom.
