[844] **He has relinquished all** (sabbaṃ so paṭinissajja): "all" is a designation for the twelve sense bases (āyatana): the eye and forms … the mind and dhammas. When desire and lust (chandarāga) for the internal and external sense bases has been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future — to this extent, too, all has been given up, disgorged, released, abandoned, relinquished. When craving (taṇhā), view (diṭṭhi), and conceit (māna) have been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future — to this extent, too, all has been given up, disgorged, released, abandoned, relinquished. When the formation of merit (puññābhisaṅkhāra), the formation of demerit (apuññābhisaṅkhāra), and the formation of the imperturbable (āneñjābhisaṅkhāra) have been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future — to this extent, too, all has been given up, disgorged, released, abandoned, relinquished. Hence, "he has relinquished all."
