[107] **"Whatever" (yā pana):** whoever, of whatever sort … .
**"Bhikkhunī":** … this is the bhikkhunī intended in this sense.
**"With a bhikkhunī":** with another bhikkhunī.
**"Robe" (cīvara):** any one of the six kinds of robe-cloth, of the minimum size eligible for assignment (vikappana).
**"Having exchanged":** having exchanged a great one for a small one, or a small one for a great one.¹
**"Should snatch back":** she snatches it back herself — it becomes subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya).
**"Should have it snatched back":** she orders another — an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). Having ordered once, even though he snatches back many, it becomes subject to forfeiture. It should be forfeited to the Saṅgha, or to a group, or to a single bhikkhunī.
"And thus, bhikkhus, should it be forfeited: … 'Venerable ladies, this robe of mine, exchanged with a bhikkhunī and snatched back, is to be forfeited. I forfeit it to the Saṅgha.' … 'should give' … 'should give' … 'I give it to the venerable lady.'"
