[195] **"Whatever"** means: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhunī"** means: … this is the bhikkhunī intended in this meaning. **"Street"** (rathiyā): what is called a carriage-road (racchā). **"Cul-de-sac"** (byūha): where they go out by the very way they entered. **"Crossroads"** (siṅghāṭaka): what is called a junction (caccara). **"Man"**: a human male — not a yakkha, not a peta, not an animal — one who is intelligent, capable of standing together and of conversing. **"With"** means: together. **"One with one"**: there is a man, and there is a bhikkhunī. **"Should stand together"**: she stands within arm's reach (hatthapāsa) of the man — an offence of pācittiya. **"Or should converse"**: standing within arm's reach of the man, she converses — an offence of pācittiya. **"Or should whisper close to the ear"**: she speaks close to the man's ear — an offence of pācittiya. **"Or should dismiss her companion bhikkhunī"**: desiring to engage in misconduct, she dismisses her companion bhikkhunī — an offence of dukkaṭa. As (the companion) is leaving the range of seeing or the range of hearing, an offence of dukkaṭa; when she has left, an offence of pācittiya. Having gone beyond arm's reach, she stands together or converses — an offence of dukkaṭa. If she stands together or converses with a yakkha, or a peta, or a paṇḍaka, or an animal having a human form — an offence of dukkaṭa.
