[427] "Whatever" (yā pana): whoever, of whatever sort … "Bhikkhunī": … this is the bhikkhunī intended in this context.
"Probationer (sikkhamānā)" means: one who has completed the training in the six rules for two years.
"If you, noble lady, will follow me for two years" means: you will attend upon me for two full years.
"Thus will I sponsor you for ordination (vuṭṭhāpeti)" means: thus will I give you full ordination (upasampādeti).
"She afterwards being without obstruction" means: there being no obstruction.
"Should neither sponsor her for ordination" means: should not sponsor her for ordination herself.
"Nor make an effort for her ordination" means: should not direct another to do so.
At the very moment she casts off the responsibility, thinking, "I will neither sponsor her for ordination nor make an effort for her ordination," there is an offense of pācittiya.
