[466] At that time the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's park. Now at that time bhikkhunīs had themselves massaged and also rubbed down by a bhikkhunī. People, wandering about on a tour of the dwellings, saw this and complained, criticized, and spread it about: "How can bhikkhunīs have themselves massaged and also rubbed down by a bhikkhunī, just like householder women who enjoy sensual pleasures?"
The bhikkhunīs heard those people complaining, criticizing, and spreading it about. Those bhikkhunīs who were of few wishes … complained, criticized, and spread it about: "How can bhikkhunīs have themselves massaged and also rubbed down by a bhikkhunī?" …
"Is it true, as they say, bhikkhus, that bhikkhunīs have themselves massaged and also rubbed down by a bhikkhunī?"
"It is true, Blessed One."
The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked them: "How, bhikkhus, can bhikkhunīs have themselves massaged and also rubbed down by a bhikkhunī? This, bhikkhus, is not for the confidence of those without confidence … And thus, bhikkhus, let the bhikkhunīs recite this training rule (sikkhāpada):
"Whatever bhikkhunī should have herself massaged or rubbed down by a bhikkhunī incurs a pācittiya."
