[503] These seven principles for the settlement of legal issues (adhikaraṇasamathā dhammā), venerable ladies, come up for recitation.
For the settlement and stilling of legal issues (adhikaraṇa) whenever they have arisen: removal in the presence (sammukhāvinaya) should be granted; removal by verdict of mindfulness (sativinaya) should be granted; removal on account of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) should be granted; acting according to what is acknowledged (paṭiññātakaraṇa); decision by majority (yebhuyyasikā); the verdict of aggravated misconduct against a person (tassapāpiyasikā); and covering over as with grass (tiṇavatthāraka).
Recited, venerable ladies, are the seven principles for the settlement of legal issues. Therein I ask the venerable ladies: Are you pure in this? A second time I ask: Are you pure in this? A third time I ask: Are you pure in this? The venerable ladies are pure in this; therefore they are silent. Thus do I hold this to be so.
