[52] At that time the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery. Now at that time the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā was beautiful, lovely to behold, and graceful. People, on seeing the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā in the refectory, being lustful (avassuta), gave the very finest foods to the lustful bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā. The bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā ate as much as she wished. The other bhikkhunīs did not obtain food as they had expected.
Those bhikkhunīs who were of few wishes … they complained, criticized, and spread it about: "How indeed can the lady Sundarīnandā, being lustful, with her own hand accept solid food (khādanīya) or soft food (bhojanīya) from the hand of a lustful male person, and chew and eat it?" …
"Is it true, as they say, bhikkhus, that the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā, being lustful, with her own hand accepts solid food or soft food from the hand of a lustful male person, and chews and eats it?"
"It is true, Blessed One."
The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked her: "How indeed, bhikkhus, can the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā, being lustful, with her own hand accept solid food or soft food from the hand of a lustful male person, and chew and eat it? This, bhikkhus, is not for the arousing of confidence in those without confidence … And thus, bhikkhus, let the bhikkhunīs recite this training rule:
"Should any bhikkhunī, being lustful, with her own hand accept solid food or soft food from the hand of a lustful male person, and chew or eat it, this bhikkhunī too has committed an offence entailing an offence at the very first act (paṭhamāpattika), one entailing sending away (nissāraṇīya), a saṅghādisesa."
