Saṅghādisesasikkhābada

Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga · Vol. 3 · Section 89

[89] **"This too"** is said with reference to the former ones. **"Up to the third time (yāvatatiyaka)"** means: she falls into the offense upon the formal admonition (samanubhāsanā) being carried out up to the third time, not simultaneously with the transgression of the ground (vatthu). **"Entailing sending away (nissāraṇīya)"** means: she is sent away from the Saṅgha. **"Saṅghādisesa"** means: the Saṅgha alone gives the mānatta penance for that offense, sends her back to the beginning, and rehabilitates (abbheti) her — not several bhikkhunīs, not a single bhikkhunī; therefore it is called saṅghādisesa. This is the naming, the designation, of that very class of offense (āpattinikāya); for that reason too it is called saṅghādisesa.
