[130] **"Whatever hermits and humans there are here" (ye keci me isayo manujā):** "Whatever … here" (ye keci me) …
**"Have they, Blessed One, been heedful in the path of sacrifice?" (kaccissu te bhagavā yaññapathe appamattā):** "Have they?" (kaccissu) — this is a question of doubt, a question of perplexity, a question of a divided mind, a question that is not one-sided: "Is it thus, or is it not thus? What is it, or how is it?" — hence "have they?" **"They" (te):** the offerers of sacrifice. **"Blessed One" (bhagavā):** this is a term of reverence … this designation "Blessed One" is a designation by realization (sacchikā paññatti) — hence "have they, Blessed One?"
**"Heedful in the path of sacrifice" (yaññapathe appamattā):** it is sacrifice itself that is called "the path of sacrifice" (yaññapatha). Just as the noble path is the noble way, the path of the devas is the deva way, and the path of Brahmā is the Brahmā way, even so it is sacrifice itself that is called the path of sacrifice. **"Heedful" (appamattā):** heedful in the path of sacrifice — acting with care, acting with constancy, acting without stopping, of conduct that is not slack, not laying down their zeal, not laying down the task; practising that, given much to that, giving weight to that, inclining to that, leaning toward that, sloping toward that, resolved upon that, with that as their dominant concern — thus they are "heedful in the path of sacrifice."
Those, too, who seek, search for, and quest after a sacrifice — robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick; food, drink, clothing, a vehicle, garlands and scents, unguents, bed and dwelling, and lamps — acting with care … with that as their dominant concern: they too are heedful in the path of sacrifice. Those, too, who prepare a sacrifice — robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick; food, drink, clothing, a vehicle, garlands and scents, unguents, bed and dwelling, and lamps — acting with care … with that as their dominant concern: they too are heedful in the path of sacrifice. Those, too, who give, offer up, and relinquish a sacrifice — robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick; food, drink, clothing, a vehicle, garlands and scents, unguents, bed and dwelling, and lamps — acting with care … with that as their dominant concern: they too are heedful in the path of sacrifice. Hence: "Have they, Blessed One, been heedful in the path of sacrifice?"
