[246] **"Depending on which I might cross this flood"** (yaṃ nissito oghamimaṃ tareyyaṃ): as to **"depending on which"** (yaṃ nissito) — depending either on a person (puggala) or depending on a dhamma. As to **"I might cross this flood"** (oghamimaṃ tareyyaṃ) — I might cross, cross over, cross beyond, transcend, and pass beyond the great flood of sensuality (kāmogha), the flood of existence (bhavogha), the flood of views (diṭṭhogha), and the flood of ignorance (avijjogha); thus, "depending on which I might cross this flood." Therefore that brahmin said:
"Alone, O Sakka, and unsupported, (thus said the venerable Upasīva)
I am not able to cross the great flood.
Tell me a support (ārammaṇa), O All-seeing One (samantacakkhu),
depending on which I might cross this flood."
