[295] *Kaccissu te (bhagavā) tattha yatā carantā* (Do they, Blessed One, fare restrained therein?): "*Kaccissu*" — this is a question out of doubt (saṃsayapucchā), a question out of perplexity (vimatipucchā), a question of double-mindedness (dveḷhakapucchā), a question that is not one-sided (anekaṃsapucchā): "Is it thus indeed? Is it not thus? What indeed is it? How indeed is it?" — thus, "*kaccissu*" (do they indeed?). "*Te*" (they): those who are adherents of views (diṭṭhigatikā). "*Bhagavā*": this is a term of reverence … a designation verified by realization (sacchikā paññatti), namely "Bhagavā" — thus, "do they indeed, Blessed One (*kaccissu te bhagavā*)." "*Tattha yatā carantā*" (fare restrained therein): "*Tattha*" (therein): in their own view (diṭṭhi), in their own acceptance (khanti), in their own preference (ruci), in their own creed (laddhi). "*Yatā*" (restrained): restrained, kept in check,³ guarded, protected, controlled. "*Carantā*" (faring): faring, wandering about, moving in the postures (iriyāpatha), proceeding, maintaining themselves, keeping going, sustaining themselves — thus, "do they indeed, (Blessed One,) fare restrained therein (*kaccissu te (bhagavā) tattha yatā carantā*)." ¹ M (Burmese ed.): *vatenapi*; so also below. ² M: *anekavidhakotūhalamaṅgalena*; so also below. ³ M: *yattā paṭiyattā guttā*; so also below.
