[297] **"I ask you, Blessed One; tell me that"** — as to *"I ask you" (pucchāmi taṃ)*: I ask you, I beg you, I request you, I entreat your gracious favour, saying, "Please tell me" — thus, "I ask you."
*"Blessed One" (Bhagavā)*: this is a term of reverence … this designation (paññatti), namely "Blessed One," is one verified by realization (sacchikā paññatti).
*"Tell me that"*: tell it, declare it, teach it, make it known, establish it, disclose it, analyze it, make it plain, explain it — thus, "I ask you, Blessed One; tell me that."
Therefore that brahmin said:
"Whatever ascetics and brahmins here (so said the venerable Nanda)
speak of purity by means of the seen and the heard,
speak of purity by means of virtue and observances (sīlabbata),
speak of purity by manifold means —
have they, Blessed One, living restrained therein,
crossed over birth and aging, dear sir (mārisa)?
I ask you, Blessed One; tell me that."
