[344] **And they are ever at peace (upasantā ca te sadā):** *At peace (upasantā)* — they are at peace through the stilling of lust (rāga); at peace through the stilling of hatred (dosa); at peace through the stilling of delusion (moha); through the stilling of anger (kodha), of grudge (upanāha), … of all unwholesome volitional formations (akusalābhisaṅkhārā) — because these have been stilled, quieted, burned out, quenched, dispelled, and tranquilized, they are peaceful, at peace, fully calmed, quenched, tranquilized; hence "at peace." *They (te):* the Arahants whose taints (āsava) are destroyed. *Ever (sadā):* always, at all times, at every time, constantly, perpetually, continually, uninterruptedly, in unbroken succession, arising like wave upon wave on water, without interval, connected in continuity, coherent, contiguous; before the meal and after the meal; in the first watch, in the middle watch, in the last watch of the night; in the dark fortnight and in the bright fortnight; in the rainy season, in the winter, in the summer; in the first stage of life, in the middle stage of life, in the last stage of life. Hence: "and they are ever at peace."
