[345] **Tiṇṇā loke visattikaṃ** ("having crossed over attachment in the world"): craving (taṇhā) is called "attachment" (visattikā) — whatever lust, infatuation … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root.
**Attachment (visattikā)**: in what sense "attachment"? … It is spread out, it is extended: thus it is "attachment."
**In the world**: in the world of the states of loss … in the world of the sense bases (āyatana).
**Having crossed over … in the world**: that attachment which is in the world — that attachment in the world he has crossed over, crossed above, crossed beyond, passed over, fully surmounted, and gone past: thus, "having crossed over attachment in the world." Hence the Blessed One said:
Those who, having fully understood this, are mindful,
quenched in this very life (diṭṭhadhammābhinibbutā),
they are ever at peace,
having crossed over attachment in the world.
Together with the conclusion of the verse … "The Blessed One, venerable sir, is my teacher; I am his disciple."
