[426] **Whatever in the world they cling to** (yaṃ yaṃ hi lokasmiṃ upādiyanti): whatever pertaining to form (rūpa), pertaining to feeling (vedanā), pertaining to perception (saññā), pertaining to volitional formations (saṅkhārā), or pertaining to consciousness (viññāṇa) they take up, cling to, grasp, take hold of, and adhere to.
**In the world** (lokasmiṃ): in the world of states of loss (apāyaloka) … the world of the sense bases (āyatana). Hence, "whatever in the world they cling to."
