[530] **"Abandon craving for no renewed existence" (jahassu taṇhaṃ apunabbhavāya):** **Craving (taṇhā):** craving for forms (rūpataṇhā), craving for sounds, craving for odours, craving for tastes, craving for tangibles, craving for dhammas.
**"Abandon craving":** abandon craving, forsake craving, dispel craving, put an end to craving, bring craving to annihilation — thus, "abandon craving."
**"For no renewed existence":** in such a way that your form may cease right here, and rebirth-linking existence would not be produced again — whether in the sense-sphere element, the form element, or the formless element (dhātu); whether in sense-sphere existence, form existence, or formless existence; whether in percipient existence, non-percipient existence, or neither-percipient-nor-non-percipient existence; whether in one-constituent existence, four-constituent existence, or five-constituent existence — would not be engendered again, would not be generated, would not be produced, would not be reproduced in a destination, in an arising, in rebirth-linking, in saṃsāra, or in the round; it would cease right here, be stilled, come to an end, be allayed — thus, "abandon craving for no renewed existence."
Therefore the Blessed One said:
Beholding human beings sunk in craving (taṇhā), (Piṅgiya, said the Blessed One)
born to torment, overwhelmed by old age —
therefore, Piṅgiya, being heedful,
abandon craving for no renewed existence.
