Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Cūḷaniddesa · Vol. 30 · Section 592

[592] **All that is handed-down hearsay (sabbantaṃ itihītihaṃ)**: all of that is handed-down hearsay (itihītiha) — that is, they spoke a teaching not directly known by themselves, not personally witnessed by themselves, [going] by hearsay (itikirāya), by lineage of teaching (paramparāya), by scriptural collections (piṭakasampadāya), by logic (takkahetu), by inference (nayahetu), by reasoned reflection on appearances (ākāraparivitakkena), by acceptance of a view after consideration (diṭṭhinijjhānakkhantiyā). Therefore, "all that is handed-down hearsay."
