[766] **Little is the gratification, greater is the suffering (dukkha) herein**: sensual pleasures (kāmā) have been declared by the Blessed One to be of little gratification (appassāda), of much suffering, of much despair; the danger (ādīnava) herein is greater. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a skeleton of bones. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a lump of flesh. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a grass torch. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a pit of glowing coals. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a dream. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like borrowed goods. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like the fruits of a tree. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a butcher's knife and chopping block. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a spear and stake. Sensual pleasures have been declared by the Blessed One to be like a snake's head — of much suffering, of much despair; the danger herein is greater.
