[769] **Having shattered the fetters** (sandālayitvāna saññojanāni): there are ten fetters (saṃyojana): the fetter of sensual lust (kāmarāga), the fetter of repulsion (paṭigha), the fetter of conceit (māna), the fetter of views (diṭṭhi), the fetter of doubt (vicikicchā), the fetter of adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa), the fetter of lust for existence (bhavarāga), the fetter of envy (issā), the fetter of avarice (macchariya), and the fetter of ignorance (avijjā). **Having shattered the fetters**: having broken, having shattered, having abandoned, having dispelled, having made an end of, and having brought to non-existence the ten fetters — therefore, "having shattered the fetters."
