[204] Contemplating the sign (nimitta) as fearful, because of being resolved upon the signless (animitta), with each contact he sees passing away; having looked on with equanimity at occurrence (pavatta), having adverted to cessation, Nibbāna, the signless, he attains: this is the signless dwelling-attainment (animittā vihārasamāpatti). Contemplating wish (paṇidhi) as fearful, because of being resolved upon the wishless (appaṇihita), with each contact he sees passing away; having looked on with equanimity at occurrence, having adverted to cessation, Nibbāna, the wishless, he attains: this is the wishless dwelling-attainment (appaṇihitā vihārasamāpatti). Contemplating adherence (abhinivesa) as fearful, because of being resolved upon emptiness (suññatā), with each contact he sees passing away; having looked on with equanimity at occurrence, having adverted to cessation, Nibbāna, the empty, he attains: this is the empty dwelling-attainment (suññatā vihārasamāpatti).
