[232] "Head" (sīsa): there are thirteen heads. Craving (taṇhā) is the head as impediment (palibodha); conceit (māna) is the head as bondage (bandhana);¹ view (diṭṭhi) is the head as misapprehension (parāmāsa); restlessness (uddhacca) is the head as distraction (vikkhepa); ignorance (avijjā) is the head as defilement (kilesa); faith (saddhā) is the head as resolution (adhimokkha); energy (vīriya) is the head as exertion (paggaha); mindfulness (sati) is the head as establishment (upaṭṭhāna); concentration (samādhi) is the head as non-distraction (avikkhepa); wisdom (paññā) is the head as seeing (dassana); the life faculty (jīvitindriya) is the head as occurrence (pavatta); liberation (vimokkha) is the head as domain (gocara); cessation (nirodha) is the head as formations (saṅkhāra).
That is knowledge (ñāṇa) in the sense of being known, and wisdom in the sense of understanding. Therefore it is said: wisdom as the non-establishment of all dhammas in their complete cutting-off and in cessation is knowledge (ñāṇa) in the sense of "sameness of head" (samasīsa).
