[234] **"Diversity and unity" (nānattekattaṃ):** sensual desire (kāmacchanda) is diversity, renunciation (nekkhamma) is unity; ill will (byāpāda) is diversity, non-ill will (abyāpāda) is unity; dullness and drowsiness (thīnamiddha) are diversity, the perception of light (ālokasaññā) is unity; restlessness (uddhacca) is diversity, non-distraction (avikkhepa) is unity; doubt (vicikicchā) is diversity, the defining of dhammas (dhammavavatthāna) is unity; ignorance (avijjā) is diversity, knowledge (ñāṇa) is unity; discontent (arati) is diversity, gladness (pāmujja) is unity; the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) are diversity, the first jhāna (paṭhamajjhāna) is unity … all defilements (kilesa) are diversity, the path of arahantship (arahattamagga) is unity.
