[397] "He combines the powers (bala)": how does he combine the powers?
In the sense of unshakability by lack of faith, he combines the power of faith (saddhā); in the sense of unshakability by laziness (kosajja), he combines the power of energy; in the sense of unshakability by heedlessness (pamāda), he combines the power of mindfulness; in the sense of unshakability by restlessness (uddhacca), he combines the power of concentration (samādhi); in the sense of unshakability by ignorance (avijjā), he combines the power of wisdom. This person combines these powers upon this object. Therefore it is said: "He combines the powers."
"And he understands the resort (gocara)" … Therefore it is said: "and he penetrates the meaning of peace (samattha)."
