[446] In the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), by way of the mindfulness faculty (satindriya), through which twenty modes (ākāra) should the behavior (cariyā) of the five faculties (indriya) be seen?
In the establishment of mindfulness that is contemplating the body in the body, the behavior of the mindfulness faculty should be seen in the sense of the predominance of establishment (upaṭṭhānādhipateyya); by way of the mindfulness faculty, the behavior of the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) should be seen in the sense of non-distraction (avikkhepa); the behavior of the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) should be seen in the sense of seeing (dassana); the behavior of the faith faculty (saddhindriya) should be seen in the sense of resolution (adhimokkha); the behavior of the energy faculty (viriyindriya) should be seen in the sense of exertion (paggaha). In the establishment of mindfulness that is contemplating feelings (vedanā) in feelings … in the establishment of mindfulness that is contemplating the mind (citta) in the mind … in the establishment of mindfulness that is contemplating dhammas in dhammas, the behavior of the mindfulness faculty should be seen in the sense of the predominance of establishment; by way of the mindfulness faculty … the behavior of the energy faculty should be seen in the sense of exertion. In the four establishments of mindfulness, by way of the mindfulness faculty, through these twenty modes the behavior of the five faculties should be seen.
