[447] By way of the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) in the four jhānas (jhāna), in which twenty modes should the conduct (cariyā) of the five faculties (indriya) be seen?
In the first jhāna, the conduct of the concentration faculty should be seen in the sense of dominance in non-distraction (avikkhepa); by way of the concentration faculty, the conduct of the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) should be seen in the sense of seeing; the conduct of the faith faculty (saddhindriya) should be seen in the sense of resolution (adhimokkha); the conduct of the energy faculty (viriyindriya) should be seen in the sense of exertion (paggaha); the conduct of the mindfulness faculty (satindriya) should be seen in the sense of establishment (upaṭṭhāna). In the second jhāna … in the third jhāna … in the fourth jhāna, the conduct of the concentration faculty should be seen in the sense of dominance in non-distraction; by way of the concentration faculty … the conduct of the mindfulness faculty should be seen in the sense of establishment.
By way of the concentration faculty in the four jhānas, in these twenty modes the conduct of the five faculties should be seen.
