[451] Bhikkhus, there are these five faculties (indriya). What five? The faith faculty (saddhindriya), the energy faculty (viriyindriya), the mindfulness faculty (satindriya), the concentration faculty (samādhindriya), and the wisdom faculty (paññindriya). These, bhikkhus, are the five faculties. In how many aspects should these five faculties be seen? These five faculties should be seen in six aspects. In what sense should they be seen? In the sense of dominance (ādhipateyya), in the sense of initial purification (ādivisodhana), in the sense of surpassing strength (adhimatta), in the sense of steadfastness (adhiṭṭhāna), in the sense of exhausting (pariyādāna), and in the sense of establishing (patiṭṭhāpaka).
