[440] By way of the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya) in the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), through which twenty modes should the five faculties (pañcindriyāni) be seen? In the establishment of mindfulness consisting in contemplating the body in the body, the faculty of mindfulness should be seen in the sense of predominance in establishing (upaṭṭhānādhipateyya); by way of the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration (samādhindriya) should be seen in the sense of non-distraction (avikkhepa); the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya) should be seen in the sense of seeing; the faculty of faith (saddhindriya) should be seen in the sense of resolution (adhimokkha); the faculty of energy (vīriyindriya) should be seen in the sense of exertion (paggaha). In the establishment of mindfulness consisting in contemplating feeling (vedanā) in feelings … in the establishment of mindfulness consisting in contemplating the mind (citta) in the mind, [and] in the establishment of mindfulness consisting in contemplating dhammas in dhammas, the faculty of mindfulness should be seen in the sense of predominance in establishing; by way of the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration should be seen in the sense of non-distraction; the faculty of wisdom should be seen in the sense of seeing; the faculty of faith should be seen in the sense of resolution; the faculty of energy should be seen in the sense of exertion. By way of the faculty of mindfulness in the four establishments of mindfulness, it is through these twenty modes that the five faculties should be seen.
