Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Paṭisambhidāmagga · Vol. 31 · Section 466

[466] "Taints (āsava)": what are those taints? The taint of sensual desire (kāmāsava), the taint of existence (bhavāsava), the taint of views (diṭṭhāsava), and the taint of ignorance (avijjāsava). Where are these taints destroyed? By the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga) the taint of views is destroyed without remainder; the taint of sensual desire leading to the states of loss (apāya) is destroyed; the taint of existence leading to the states of loss is destroyed; the taint of ignorance leading to the states of loss is destroyed. Here these taints are destroyed. By the path of once-returning (sakadāgāmimagga) the coarse taint of sensual desire is destroyed; the taint of existence co-existent therewith is destroyed; the taint of ignorance co-existent therewith is destroyed. Here these taints are destroyed. By the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga) the taint of sensual desire is destroyed without remainder; the taint of existence co-existent therewith is destroyed; the taint of ignorance co-existent therewith is destroyed. Here these taints are destroyed. By the path of arahantship (arahattamagga) the taint of existence is destroyed without remainder; the taint of ignorance is destroyed without remainder. Here these taints are destroyed. "There is nothing here unseen by him, nor anything unknown or that cannot be known; he has directly known all that is knowable: therefore the Tathāgata is the All-Seeing Eye (samantacakkhu)." "All-Seeing Eye": in what sense is he the All-Seeing Eye? There are fourteen knowledges of a Buddha (buddhañāṇa): knowledge (ñāṇa) of suffering (dukkha) is a Buddha's knowledge; knowledge of the origin of suffering is a Buddha's knowledge; … the knowledge of omniscience (sabbaññutañāṇa) is a Buddha's knowledge; the unobstructed knowledge (anāvaraṇañāṇa) is a Buddha's knowledge. These are the fourteen knowledges of a Buddha. Of these fourteen knowledges of a Buddha, eight knowledges are shared in common with disciples; six knowledges are not shared with disciples.
