[465] At the moment of the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga), for the faculty of "I shall come to know the unknown" (anaññātaññassāmītindriya): the faith faculty (saddhindriya) has resolution (adhimokkha) as its retinue; the energy faculty (viriyindriya) has exertion (paggaha) as its retinue; the mindfulness faculty (satindriya) has establishment (upaṭṭhāna) as its retinue; the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) has non-distraction (avikkhepa) as its retinue; the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) has seeing (dassana) as its retinue; the mind faculty (manindriya) has cognizing (vijānana) as its retinue; the joy faculty (somanassindriya) has delighting (abhinandana) as its retinue; the life faculty (jīvitindriya) has dominance over the continuity of occurrence (pavattasantatādhipateyya) as its retinue. The dhammas born at the moment of the path of stream-entry — excepting form originated by mind (cittasamuṭṭhāna rūpa) — are all wholesome, are all without taints (āsava), all lead out [of the round], all conduce to dispersal [of accumulation], are all supramundane, and all have Nibbāna as their object. At the moment of the path of stream-entry, these eight faculties are, for the faculty of "I shall come to know the unknown," its conascent retinue; they are its mutual retinue; they are its retinue by dependence; they are its retinue by association; they accompany it, are conascent with it, are conjoined with it, are associated with it. Those very [eight] are both its modes and its retinue. At the moment of the fruit of stream-entry …
At the moment of the fruit of arahantship (arahattaphala), for the final-knower faculty (aññātāvindriya): the faith faculty has resolution as its retinue … the life faculty has dominance over the continuity of occurrence as its retinue. The dhammas born at the moment of the fruit of arahantship are all indeterminate (abyākata) — excepting form originated by mind — are all without taints, are all supramundane, and all have Nibbāna as their object. At the moment of the fruit of arahantship, these eight faculties are, for the final-knower faculty, its conascent retinue … Those very [eight] are both its modes and its retinue. Thus these eight octads make sixty-four.
