[259] At the moment of the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga), for the faculty of "I shall come to know the unknown" (anaññātaññassāmītindriya): the faith faculty (saddhindriya) has resolution (adhimokkha) as its retinue; the energy faculty (viriyindriya) has exertion (paggaha) as its retinue; the mindfulness faculty (satindriya) has establishment (upaṭṭhāna) as its retinue; the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) has non-distraction (avikkhepa) as its retinue; the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) has seeing (dassana) as its retinue; the mind faculty (manindriya) has cognizing (vijānana) as its retinue; the joy faculty (somanassindriya) has delighting (abhinandana) as its retinue; the life faculty (jīvitindriya) has predominance in maintaining the continuity of occurrence (pavattasantatādhipateyya) as its retinue.
At the moment of the path of stream-entry, the dhammas that have arisen — except for form originated by mind (citta) — are all wholesome, are all without taints (āsava), are all emancipating (leading out of the round), are all conducive to the dismantling (of the round), are all supramundane, are all having Nibbāna as their object.
At the moment of the path of stream-entry, these eight faculties are, for the faculty of "I shall come to know the unknown," its co-arisen retinue; its mutual retinue; its retinue by way of support; its retinue by way of association; they accompany it, are co-arisen with it, are conjoined with it, and are associated with it. These very [faculties] are both its modes and its retinue.
