[494] For one attending [to formations] as suffering (dukkha), the concentration faculty (samādhindriya) becomes predominant; because of the predominance of the concentration faculty, he obtains the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga). Therefore he is called "a body-witness (kāyasakkhi)." The four [other] faculties follow along with it: they are conditions by way of connascence (sahajātapaccaya), they are conditions by way of mutuality (aññamaññapaccaya), they are conditions by way of dependence (nissayapaccaya), they are conditions by way of association (sampayuttapaccaya). Through the concentration faculty there is development of the four faculties. Whosoever obtain the path of stream-entry through the concentration faculty — all of them are body-witnesses. For one attending as suffering, the concentration faculty becomes predominant; because of the predominance of the concentration faculty, the fruition of stream-entry (sotāpattiphala) is realized … he obtains the path of once-returning (sakadāgāmimagga); the fruition of once-returning is realized. He obtains the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga); the fruition of non-returning is realized. He obtains the path of arahantship (arahattamagga); the fruition of arahantship is realized. Therefore he is called "a body-witness." The four faculties follow along with it: they are conditions by way of connascence, they are conditions by way of mutuality, they are conditions by way of dependence, they are conditions by way of association. Through the concentration faculty the four faculties are developed, well developed. Whosoever have realized arahantship through the concentration faculty — all of them are body-witnesses.
