[549] In how many ways do the four truths have a single penetration? The four truths have a single penetration in twelve ways: in the sense of trueness (tathaṭṭha), in the sense of not-self (anattaṭṭha), in the sense of truth (saccaṭṭha), in the sense of penetration (paṭivedhaṭṭha), in the sense of being directly known (abhijānanaṭṭha), in the sense of being fully understood (parijānanaṭṭha), in the sense of dhamma (dhammaṭṭha), in the sense of suchness (tathaṭṭha), in the sense of being known (ñātaṭṭha), in the sense of realization (sacchikiriyaṭṭha), in the sense of contact (phassanaṭṭha), and in the sense of breakthrough (abhisamayaṭṭha). In these twelve ways the four truths are included as one; what is included as one is a unity; one penetrates unity with a single knowledge (ñāṇa) — thus the four truths have a single penetration.
How, in the sense of trueness, do the four truths have a single penetration? In sixteen aspects the four truths have a single penetration in the sense of trueness: of suffering (dukkha), the sense of oppression, the sense of being conditioned, the sense of burning, the sense of change — the sense of trueness; of the origin, the sense of accumulation, the sense of source, the sense of bondage, the sense of impediment — the sense of trueness; of cessation, the sense of escape, the sense of seclusion, the sense of being unconditioned, the sense of the deathless — the sense of trueness; of the path (magga), the sense of leading out, the sense of cause, the sense of seeing, the sense of dominance — the sense of trueness. In these sixteen aspects, in the sense of trueness, the four truths are included as one; what is included as one is a unity; one penetrates unity with a single knowledge — thus the four truths have a single penetration.
