[56] How is it that the wisdom of applying the ear (sotāvadhāna) to the teaching "These dhammas are to be fully understood (pariññeyya)," and the wisdom that understands it, is knowledge (ñāṇa) born of what is heard (sutamaye ñāṇa)?
One dhamma is to be fully understood: contact (phassa) accompanied by taints (āsava) and subject to clinging (upādāniya). Two dhammas are to be fully understood: name (nāma) and form (rūpa). Three dhammas are to be fully understood: the three feelings (vedanā). Four dhammas are to be fully understood: the four nutriments (āhāra). Five dhammas are to be fully understood: the five aggregates subject to clinging. Six dhammas are to be fully understood: the six internal sense bases (āyatana). Seven dhammas are to be fully understood: the seven stations of consciousness (viññāṇaṭṭhiti). Eight dhammas are to be fully understood: the eight worldly conditions (lokadhamma). Nine dhammas are to be fully understood: the nine abodes of beings (sattāvāsa). Ten dhammas are to be fully understood: the ten sense bases.
