[57] Bhikkhus, all should be fully understood (pariññeyya). And what, bhikkhus, is the all that should be fully understood? The eye, bhikkhus, should be fully understood; forms should be fully understood; eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa) should be fully understood; eye-contact (cakkhusamphassa) should be fully understood; and whatever feeling (vedanā) arises with eye-contact as condition—whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant—that too should be fully understood. The ear should be fully understood; sounds should be fully understood … The nose should be fully understood; odours should be fully understood; the tongue should be fully understood; tastes should be fully understood; the body should be fully understood; tangible objects should be fully understood; the mind (mano) should be fully understood; mental phenomena (dhammā) should be fully understood; mind-consciousness should be fully understood; mind-contact should be fully understood; and whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition—whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant—that too should be fully understood.
