[657] What is emptiness through immersion (pariyogāhanasuñña)? Immersion in renunciation (nekkhamma) is empty of sensual desire (kāmacchanda); immersion in non-ill will is empty of ill will (byāpāda); immersion in the perception of light is empty of dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha); immersion in non-distraction is empty of restlessness (uddhacca); immersion in the determining of dhammas is empty of doubt (vicikicchā); immersion in knowledge (ñāṇa) is empty of ignorance (avijjā); immersion in gladness is empty of discontent; immersion in the first jhāna is empty of the hindrances (nīvaraṇa) … immersion in the path (magga) of Arahantship is empty of all defilements. This is emptiness through immersion.
