[664] "They lead to the acquisition of wisdom": what is the acquisition of wisdom (paññā-paṭilābha)?
The gain (lābha), acquisition (paṭilābha), reaching (patti), full attainment (sampatti), contact (phassanā), realization (sacchikiriyā), and full possession (upasampadā) of the four knowledges (ñāṇa) of the path, the four knowledges of fruition, the four knowledges of analytic insight (paṭisambhidā-ñāṇa), the six superknowledges (abhiññā), the seventy-three knowledges, and the seventy-seven knowledges — this is the acquisition of wisdom in the phrase "they lead to the acquisition of wisdom."
"They lead to the growth of wisdom": what is the growth of wisdom (paññā-buḍḍhi)? The wisdom of the seven trainees (sekkha) and of the good worldling (puthujjana-kalyāṇaka) grows; the wisdom of the Arahant grows — a growing (vaḍḍhanā) — this is the growth of wisdom in the phrase "they lead to the growth of wisdom."
"They lead to the abundance of wisdom": what is the abundance of wisdom (paññā-vepulla)? The wisdom of the seven trainees and of the good worldling goes to abundance; the wisdom of the Arahant is abundance itself (vepullatā) — this is the abundance of wisdom in the phrase "they lead to the abundance of wisdom."
