[697] Is the breakthrough (abhisamaya) only this much? Not so. At the moment of the supramundane path: right view (sammādiṭṭhi) is a breakthrough by seeing; right intention (sammāsaṅkappa) is a breakthrough by application of the mind; right speech (sammāvācā) is a breakthrough by embracing; right action (sammākammanta) is a breakthrough by originating; right livelihood (sammā-ājīva) is a breakthrough by cleansing; right effort (sammāvāyāma) is a breakthrough by taking hold (pariggaha); right mindfulness (sammāsati) is a breakthrough by establishing; right concentration (sammāsamādhi) is a breakthrough by non-distraction; the mindfulness factor of awakening (bojjhaṅga) is a breakthrough by establishing … the equanimity factor of awakening is a breakthrough by reflection. The power of faith is a breakthrough by unshakability in the face of faithlessness; the power of energy is a breakthrough by unshakability in the face of laziness; the power of mindfulness is a breakthrough by unshakability in the face of heedlessness; the power of concentration (samādhi) is a breakthrough by unshakability in the face of restlessness; the power of wisdom is a breakthrough by unshakability in the face of ignorance. The faith faculty is a breakthrough by resolution; the energy faculty is a breakthrough by exertion; the mindfulness faculty is a breakthrough by establishing; the concentration faculty is a breakthrough by non-distraction; the wisdom faculty is a breakthrough by seeing. There is breakthrough of the faculties in the sense of dominance; breakthrough of the powers in the sense of unshakability; breakthrough of the factors of awakening in the sense of leading out; breakthrough of the path (magga) in the sense of cause; breakthrough of the establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) in the sense of establishing; breakthrough of the right strivings in the sense of striving; breakthrough of the bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda) in the sense of succeeding; breakthrough of the truths in the sense of suchness; breakthrough of serenity (samatha) in the sense of non-distraction; breakthrough of insight (vipassanā) in the sense of contemplation; breakthrough of serenity and insight in the sense of their single function; breakthrough of the coupling (yuganaddha) in the sense of not overrunning one another. Purification of virtue in the sense of restraint is a breakthrough; purification of mind in the sense of non-distraction is a breakthrough; purification of view in the sense of seeing is a breakthrough; there is breakthrough of resolution (adhimokkha) in the sense of being freed; breakthrough of true knowledge (vijjā) in the sense of penetration; deliverance (vimutti) in the sense of relinquishment is a breakthrough; knowledge (ñāṇa) of destruction in the sense of cutting off is a breakthrough. Zeal (chanda) is a breakthrough in the sense of being the root; attention (manasikāra) is a breakthrough in the sense of origination; contact (phassa) is a breakthrough in the sense of combining; feeling (vedanā) is a breakthrough in the sense of the meeting-place; concentration is a breakthrough in the sense of being foremost; mindfulness is a breakthrough in the sense of dominance; wisdom is a breakthrough in the sense of surpassing all that; deliverance is a breakthrough in the sense of the core; Nibbāna, which merges in the deathless, is a breakthrough in the sense of the final end.
