[70] What is development as single function (ekarasā bhāvanā)? For one developing the faith faculty (saddhindriya) in the sense of resolution (adhimokkha), the four [other] faculties come to have a single function through the power of the faith faculty — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the faculties. For one developing the energy faculty (viriyindriya) in the sense of exertion, the four faculties come to have a single function through the power of the energy faculty — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the faculties. For one developing the mindfulness faculty (satindriya) in the sense of establishing, the four faculties come to have a single function through the power of the mindfulness faculty — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the faculties. For one developing the concentration (samādhi) faculty (samādhindriya) in the sense of non-distraction, the four faculties come to have a single function through the power of the concentration faculty — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the faculties. For one developing the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) in the sense of seeing, the four faculties come to have a single function through the power of the wisdom faculty — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the faculties. For one developing the power of faith (saddhābala) in the sense of unshakeability by faithlessness, the four [other] powers come to have a single function through the power of the power of faith — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the powers. For one developing the power of energy (viriyabala) in the sense of unshakeability by indolence, the four powers come to have a single function through the power of the power of energy — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the powers. For one developing the power of mindfulness (satibala) in the sense of unshakeability by heedlessness, the four powers come to have a single function through the power of the power of mindfulness — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the powers. For one developing the power of concentration (samādhibala) in the sense of unshakeability by restlessness, the four powers come to have a single function through the power of the power of concentration — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the powers. For one developing the power of wisdom (paññābala) in the sense of unshakeability by ignorance (avijjā), the four powers come to have a single function through the power of the power of wisdom — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the powers. For one developing the awakening factor of mindfulness (satisambojjhaṅga) in the sense of establishing, the six [other] factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of mindfulness — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas (dhammavicayasambojjhaṅga) in the sense of investigating, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of energy (vīriya) in the sense of exertion, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of energy — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of rapture (pīti) in the sense of pervading, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of rapture — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of tranquility (passaddhi) in the sense of peace, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of tranquility — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of concentration in the sense of non-distraction, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of concentration — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhā) in the sense of reflection, the six factors of awakening come to have a single function through the power of the awakening factor of equanimity — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the factors of awakening. For one developing right view (sammādiṭṭhi) in the sense of seeing, the seven [other] factors of the path (magga) come to have a single function through the power of right view — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right thought (sammāsaṅkappa) in the sense of directing onto [the object], the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right thought — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right speech (sammāvācā) in the sense of embracing, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right speech — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right action (sammākammanta) in the sense of originating, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right action — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right livelihood (sammā-ājīva) in the sense of cleansing, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right livelihood — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right effort (sammāvāyāma) in the sense of exertion, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right effort — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right mindfulness (sammāsati) in the sense of establishing, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right mindfulness — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. For one developing right concentration (sammāsamādhi) in the sense of non-distraction, the seven path factors come to have a single function through the power of right concentration — thus there is development in the sense of the single function of the path factors. This is development as single function.
