[716] There are another eight modes of conduct (cariyā): resolving [in faith], one conducts oneself by faith (saddhā); exerting, one conducts oneself by energy; establishing [mindfulness], one conducts oneself by mindfulness; bringing about non-distraction, one conducts oneself by concentration (samādhi); understanding, one conducts oneself by wisdom (paññā); cognizing, one conducts oneself by consciousness (viññāṇa); [reflecting] "one who practices thus attains distinction," one conducts oneself by the conduct of distinction (visesacariyā); [reflecting] "for one who practices thus, wholesome dhammas extend onward," one conducts oneself by the conduct of extension (āyatanacariyā). These are the eight modes of conduct.
