Sudhāvagga

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Therāpadāna (1) · Vol. 32 · Section 102

[102] I was conch-blower to the Blessed One Vipassī; I was engaged in constant attendance upon the Well-Gone One (sugata), the great seer. Seeing the fruit of attendance upon the Lord of the World (lokanātha), the steadfast one (tādī), sixty thousand musical instruments surround me at all times. In the ninety-first aeon (kappa) from now I attended upon the great seer; I know of no bad destination: this is the fruit of attendance. In the ninety-fourth aeon from now there were sixteen kings named Mahānigghosa, wheel-turning monarchs (cakkavattī) of great might. The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha), and the six superknowledges (abhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed did the Venerable Buddhupaṭṭhāka, the Elder, speak these verses. The Apadāna of the Elder Buddhupaṭṭhāka is concluded. Summary (uddāna): Sudhā, Pīṭha, and Cela, the Smith (Kammāra), Gandhamāliya, Tipupphiya, Madhu, Senā, Veyyāvacca, and Dhammaka; and an even sixty verses are proclaimed in this chapter (vagga). The Sudhāvagga, the tenth. Now the summary of the chapters: The Buddhavagga indeed is first; Sīhāsani and Subhūti, Kuṇḍadhāna and Upāli, Vījanī, Sakacittani, Nāgasamāla, Timiri — with the Sudhāvagga these make ten; the verses are fourteen hundred, and fifty-five besides. The decade of chapters beginning with the Buddhavagga. The First Hundred is concluded. ______________ The Eleventh Chapter: Bhikkhadāyivagga First: the Apadāna of the Elder Bhikkhadāyaka (101)
