[15] A linen cloth (khoma) was given by me to the Blessed One Padumuttara,
the eldest of the world, the steadfast one (tādī), the Self-Awakened One (sayambhū), the Great Seer.
The Buddha, the Leader [named after] the supreme water-born flower, declared this concerning me:
"By this gift of cloth you shall be of golden complexion.
Having enjoyed the two [kinds of] prosperity, urged on by the bright root [of merit],
you shall be the younger brother of the Blessed One Gotama.
Impassioned by lust, given to ease, yoked to greed for sensual pleasures,
urged on by the Buddha, you shall then go forth.
And having gone forth, therein, urged on by the wholesome root,
fully understanding all taints (āsava), you shall attain Nibbāna, free from taints."
A hundred thousand aeons (kappa) [ago], there were four named Cela;
sixty thousand aeons [ago], four persons [named] Upacela;
five thousand aeons [ago], likewise four persons [named] Cela,
endowed with the seven treasures, sovereigns over the four continents.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
the six superknowledges (abhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Nanda the Elder spoke these verses.
