[222] The walking path (caṅkama) of the Blessed One Piyadassī was cleared by me,
covered over with reeds, a screen against wind and sun.
For the avoiding of evil, for the cultivation of the wholesome,
and for the abandoning of the defilements (kilesa), I strove in the Teacher's dispensation (sāsana).
In the eleventh aeon from now there was one renowned as "Aggiteja,"¹
a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti) endowed with the seven treasures, of great might.
¹ Ma. (Burmese) and Yu. (European) editions read "Aggidevo."
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Pāpanivāriya spoke these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Pāpanivāriya is concluded.
Summary (uddāna):
Hatthi, Pānadhi, and Sacca, Ekasaññī and Raṃsi,
Sandhita and Tālavaṇṭi, likewise Akkantasaññaka,
Sappi and Pāpanivārī — fifty-four verses in all.
