[272] The Fully Enlightened One (Sambuddha) of golden hue, the Leader named Vipassī,²
the Teacher, stood upon the bank of the river, at the head of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus.
No boat was to be found there that could ferry one across the great flood;
coming forth from the river, I carried the Leader of the World across.
In the ninety-first aeon (kappa) from this one — since I carried across the Supreme among Men —
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the carrying across.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) too,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been done.

Thus indeed the Venerable Taraṇiya the Elder uttered these verses.
