"Close by the great ocean
he was dwelling in a mountain glen;
having gone out to meet him,
I gladly⁴ gave a casket (caṅkoṭaka).
To Siddhattha, the Great Seer (mahesi),
the Self-Existent One (sayambhū), the compassionate one,⁵
having given the casket of flowers,
I rejoiced in heaven (sagga) for an eon (kappa).
It was ninety-four eons from now
that I then gave the casket;
I know of no bad destination (duggati) —
this is the fruit of the casket.
The four analytical insights (paṭisambhidā),
these eight liberations (vimokkha) too,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized;
the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been done."

Thus indeed the Venerable Caṅkoṭakiya, the elder, spoke these verses.
