[276] To Koṇḍañña the Blessed One—
free from lust, the steadfast one,
whose mind (citta) was free of harshness,¹
free from proliferation (papañca), the meditator;
who had passed beyond all delusion (moha),
seeking the welfare of all the world—
ointment (abbhañjana) was given by me
to the lord of the two-footed, the steadfast one.
In the immeasurable aeon from the present
I gave that ointment;²
I know of no bad destination (duggati):
this is the fruit of the ointment.
In the fifteenth aeon from the present
there was a khattiya named Virappa,³
endowed with the seven treasures,
a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti) of great power.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā),
and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized;
the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Abbhañjanadāyaka the Elder spoke these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Abbhañjanadāyaka is concluded.
